Necla Çelik and I listened an interview recording with a celebrity. This project is really challenging for us because they were speaking very fast and we are not accustomed to listening the speech of native speakers. We listened the recording over and over again by taking notes. However, I have learned a lot of new words and new information in this process.
Johnny Depp was interviewed and the interviewer was Steve Weintraub. Johnny Depp explained one of his films, Public Enemies. It is a 2009 American biographic-crime film directed by Michael Mann. During the interview, Johnny talked about making “Public Enemies” the story in 1930s apart from his upcoming film “Alice in Wonderland” and a lot more.
The interviewer constructs the interview by mentioning Johnny Depp’s and the character, well-known legendary gangster, John Dillinger whom Depp plays.
The first question is related to Johnny’s huge fame like John Dillinger’s. According to him, Dillinger doesn’t mind his fame but living with it is so hard. He says “Oh man, you don’t ever get used to that kind of thing. You just don’t. That’s why I hardly ever leave my house. I don’t go anywhere.”
The second question is associated with where does he want to go without noticing. He said that is a very good question and gave the answer Disneyland with his kids. He added he really wants to let them experience that kind of normal thing. “They don’t get to get daddy…daddy walks through Disneyland with them and things get weird at the moment” [laughs].
Later the interviewer turns back to the film. Johnny talked about being comfortable in the era of John Dillinger and interviewer asked “Do you think he’d be comfortable in this age?” . Actually I liked his answer “I think he’d probably run screaming. I truly do. It’s so wide, the world, now. I’m shocked at things that I see. I’m shocked at things that are available on the internet. I’m shocked at technology is promising in the next couple of years. So, yeah, I think he’d run away.”
Later they mentioned about Johnny’s prospective film Alice in Wonderland interviewer was curious about what kind of research did he do to add his role something more. He said the book; the book has some mysteries some clues which the scenario doesn’t include.
Our extra questions:
1-What is special about your relationship with Tim Burton?
2-why did you select this role? did you find the role close to yourself ?
